Quick Facts for New Students
-
Which saxophone type do you teach?
We currently specialize in the Eb Alto Saxophone. The alto sax has a lighter body, balanced weight, and manageable key layout, making it the most accessible and practical saxophone for beginners of all ages before exploring tenor or soprano down the line.
-
Do I need to own a saxophone before my first class?
Yes, having an instrument at home is essential for regular practice. Muscle memory for your embouchure (lip cushion) and finger coordination requires consistent short sessions. Our instructors can recommend dependable, free-blowing beginner student alto saxophones and appropriate reed strengths before you make a purchase.
-
What is the recommended age to start?
Typically, children can begin around ages 7 to 8. Because the alto saxophone carries some physical weight (supported by a padded neck strap) and requires a firm embouchure, students need adequate finger span and fully erupted front adult teeth to play comfortably.
