Quick Facts for New Students
-
Do I need to own a trumpet to start?
Yes, having a standard Bb (B-flat) trumpet at home is essential. Developing brass stamina requires short, regular practice sessions to build the facial muscle memory (embouchure). Our instructors can recommend dependable, free-blowing beginner models before you make a purchase.
-
What is the recommended age to start the trumpet?
Typically, children can start around ages 6 to 7. Because sound production requires firm lip pressure against the mouthpiece, it is ideal for a student's front adult teeth to be fully grown in before beginning brass training.
-
Can I practice the trumpet in an apartment or condo?
Yes. While an open trumpet is naturally loud, you can easily use an inexpensive practice mute (or an electronic silent-brass system) inside the bell. This cuts the volume down to a quiet whisper, allowing you to practice comfortably at home without disturbing neighbors or family.
